LSE Law Film Festival Opening: 20 Days in Mariupol (documentary film screening and panel)

Please join us for a screening of the astounding Academy Award and BAFTA winning film 20 Days in Mariupol. Following the screening we have a superb panel to explore the issues raised and field audience questions.

Sir William Browder KCMG – CEO Hermitage Capital Management, Head of the Global Magnitsky Justice Campaign and Author of Red Notice and Freezing Order

Sir William (Bill) Browder founded Hermitage Capital Management, which was the largest foreign investor in Russia until 2005. Since 2009, when his lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was murdered in prison after uncovering a $230 million fraud committed by Russian government officials, Sir William has been leading a campaign to expose Russia’s endemic corruption and human rights abuses.

Derl McCrudden – Journalist and Vice President of News at The Associated Press

Derl McCrudden is vice president of news and oversees global production for The Associated Press news agency.  He helped run AP’s coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and went on to be a producer of “20 Days.”  Previously he worked at ITV News, CNBC and Al Jazeera.

Anna Gallina – Legal Adviser and Project Lead, Global Rights Compliance

Anna Gallina is an international jurist specialised in international criminal and humanitarian law. Anna advises civil society organisations in the pursuit of accountability in conflict-zones. She has previously worked with the International Criminal Court and has practiced criminal law in Italy. She has an Advanced LL.M. in International Criminal Law (Leiden).

Olha Matskiv – Legal Adviser, Global Rights Compliance

Olha is a Ukrainian lawyer who works with both Ukrainian national law and international law. She obtained her master’s degree in law in the Taras Shevchenko National University in Kyiv. Olha joined the GRC team in October 2023. Before that she worked at the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, in the Department of International Law and International Cooperation.

This event is open to law students and staff only. Entrance is on a first-come-first-served basis. Please come early to avoid disappointment. In all events, please be sure to arrive by 5:15pm. There will be a short introduction before the film, and the screening will start at 5:30pm sharp. The running time of the film is 94 minutes. We will start the panel as soon aspracticable after the film (at approximately 7:10pm).
