Symposium on Judging

This promises to be a unique event in which we have the opportunity of drawing on the experience of judges from several jurisdictions to reflect on certain challenges in the contemporary practice of judging.

Our panel comprises:

Sir Tim Eicke, who has recently completed his term as the British judge on the European Court of Human Rights

Justice Goodwin Liu of the California Supreme Court

Professor Kate O’Regan, former Justice of the South Africa Constitutional Court

The panel will be moderated by Sir Ross Cranston, former Justice of the High Court of England & Wales and author of the recently published book on Judging (OUP, 2026).

Drawing on his extensive experience, Ross will be asking questions of the panel on such issues as appointments processes, conflicts of interests, collegial decisions and dissents, case management and similar matters. There will also be an opportunity for questions from the floor.

This Event will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. This event is not open to the public.
