Confronting climate change: the laws we have and the laws we need

It is widely accepted and scientifically supported that, in order to avoid major ecological disruption and catastrophe, we should aim to keep global temperature rises to below 2 degrees, and as close to 1.5 degrees as possible. Do the laws we currently have on the books help us to stay within manageable temperature rise boundaries, or do they instead threaten the achievement of climate change objectives? In this showcase event, we will tackle the question of whether current legal provisions in the UK and beyond are a friend or foe of sustainable climate change governance.
