He qualified as a barrister in 1986, was elected to parliament in 1997, became a minister in 1999 and then lost his parliamentary seat in 2001. He then worked “in house at a major law firm, running a national Health Law practice and returned to the Bar in 2008. He took silk in 2011 and is lead author of NHS Law and Practice, the leading practitioner’s guide to the NHS.
